General Information
Born in Africa is a non-profit organisation, active in socio-economically disadvantaged areas around Plettenberg Bay, South Africa.
These disadvantages areas are called townships in South Africa and find their origin in the Apartheid regime which was enforced from 1948 until the early 90's. Up until today, people of all colours live in these areas due to the high unemployment rate in the country and the unstable economy. Other socio- economic issues such us a low level education in public shools, high costs involved with tertiary studies, low minimum wage, alcohol and drug abuse, teen pregnancies and much more contribute to why Born in Africa does the valuable work it does.
Education is one of the fundamental rights of all children. Therefore, we are committed to the long-term educational development of underprivileged children in South Africa. A solid education provides solutions for these children, equipping them to get out of hopeless situations- often dominated by poverty, abuse, and unemployment. Only when these children are given the opportunity to obtain a decent education, will they have any hope of entering the labour market.
With education, we come one step closer to social and economic equality.
